Beyond Forever is a work of chick-lit, romance and charming drama penned by author D. D. Marx, and presented in audiobook format with narration by Heather Masters and Angus King. In the third book in the continuing Beyond Series, we once again return to the tumultuous lives of Olivia Henry and Finn McDaniel, who have been through rather a lot so far to stay together and find happiness. The spiritual magical realism elements of the plot return with a bang as Finn turns to Dan, Olivia’s deceased best friend, for guidance about the huge changes that are happening in both their lives. What results is a heartfelt drama with some brand-new revelations about Olivia and Finn’s connection to the beyond.
What started out in book one as a playful romantic comedy with some great magical realism and ghostly goings-on has quickly become a full-on, fully-realized tale of poignancy, genuine drama and deep, meaningful moments about the realities of love, loss and building a life together. Author D. D. Marx once again puts that loving spin on the chick-lit genre, and I was really pleased to see so much development for Finn in this installment too.
In terms of audiobook quality, the presentation and narration offer top-notch listening as always. Narrator Helen Masters delivers her lovely, familiar, wry and heartfelt rendition of Olivia, and Angus King really has a chance to shine in this particular volume too, with lots of emotional depth. Overall, Beyond Forever continues what is sure to become an absolutely beloved series for fans of drama, romance, and a little bit of the beyond too.
