Somewhere in the lush hills of Baja California lives a friendly jackrabbit known to all his friends as Big Ears Jack. Jack has taken it upon himself to look out for all his fellow furry two- and four-legged friends in that beautiful part of the world. He has devised an effective way of doing this that involves magic. Read along and discover how Jack became so popular with the animals and insects as he introduces us to his friends, like Swindler the Seagull, Miss Mucha Purrs the Bobcat, and Paulina the Puma, among others, in Earl Vincent de Berge's Big Ears Jack and Friends.

Big Ears Jack and Friends by Earl Vincent de Berge is designed to inspire children to appreciate nature's wonders. Jack's brief origin story, which captures how he lost his mate, adds a realistic element to the narrative that readers will connect with. Using the wildlife of Baja California, de Berge weaves an immersive tale that combines fiction with factual details about the lifestyles of various animals and insects. Two notable examples are the territorial nesting habits of specific species of ants and the lifecycle of the tarantula hawk (a spider wasp). The author presents educational information in detail while using the dialogue between the characters to stimulate young readers' imaginations. The mix of strategically placed pictures, an engaging narrative style, and thought-provoking subplots regarding these animals ensures that young readers will learn vital lessons in diplomacy and survival from Big Ears Jack and Friends while enjoying a captivating adventure.
