Bleach opens with a shocking scene of death. David S. Grant grabs the reader’s attention by describing a girl lying on a bathroom floor covered in blood. The plot skips around in time. It does not flow smoothly, but this works well with Grant’s writing style.

This is the story of Jeremy. The plot leads up to a strange New Year’s Eve party. The required dress is for the men to dress like prostitutes and the women like pimps. A party cannot get much stranger than that unless someone shows up with guns.

Blackout continues the story that began in Bleach. Once again, the narrator is Jeremy; however, the story begins at a bachelor party in Las Vegas. The party is filled with drugs, sex, and murder.

Bleach/Blackout is actually two novels both written in David S. Grants’ uniquely brutal style. This is not a book for everyone, as the author warns from the first page. Davd S. Grant is very talented. His book left this reader with uncomfortable feeling. He speaks of a culture that I cannot relate too. However, that does not mean it does not exist. Grant demonstrates the world that young business adults face each day. The action moves fast. There are drugs, alcohol, hangovers, and a desperate desire to live a full life. I found myself very grateful not to be part of the society that Jeremy lives in. If you enjoy hard-hitting, brutal stories, you will enjoy Bleach/Blackout.
