Chronicles of the Family Tree is a collection of short stories. Each one begins with a poem dedicated to trees, symbolizing various aspects of family. They talk about topics such as growth, life, and destiny. Then, each story presents a different family dynamic and conveys a valuable lesson, such as the importance of choosing your own path: you decide whether to give up or persevere. The family relationships shown are varied, not only between siblings, but also involving aunts, uncles, and nephews. The narratives change between stories, with perspectives ranging from a child to an adult. In this way, author Matthew Aprea reminds us that life is not perfect; it depends on how we see what we have and teaches us to value it.
I loved the variety of stories Matthew Aprea shares with us. He tackles a wide range of emotions, which makes you feel part of the scenes. Some of his stories are sad, like the one about a man who misses the comfort of his mother because, after his loss, he discovers how hard life can be. Others have a touch of fantasy, such as the story of a dog that can speak for a few moments and takes advantage of that time to talk to its owner. In addition, I found the writing style enjoyable and relatable. I liked that his characters have unique personalities and different ways of speaking, making the stories feel natural. This creates an entertaining and dynamic read. The plots are clear, as are the lessons shown. Chronicles of the Family Tree combines poetry and life lessons, highlighting the value of family, trust, and the importance of living together.
