In Blythe Court by Nora Covington, Ann Seddon has two choices: either she becomes a typical aristocratic wife or she can take charge of her life and fight back. Ann Seddon knew that her parents would find a wealthy husband for her, one who will bring good fortune to the family. A marriage of convenience was not a foreign concept for her and she knew that she would have to make her peace with it one day. It was a common practice in the family to keep the fortune intact and have a pure bloodline. Too soon, she makes her presentation at court and now her life is all about the next ball, the next tea party, and the next dance.
John Broadhurst, the Marquess of Dorchester, is chosen as the perfect suitor and husband for her, but Ann has bad feelings about this match. Even though the marquess is very handsome, she believes that he is going to be arrogant and brash. Soon, he proves her suspicions to be true. When he makes it known that he does not find her desirable as well, she knows that their marriage is doomed. They get married, but Ann feels that their marriage is not going to be one of bliss. It turns out, she was right. Soon, suspicions and lies become a part of their married life and a dark danger is chasing them at every turn.
Blythe Court by Nora Covington is a thrilling tale of a rakishly handsome marquess and his lovely lady. Ann is such a pessimist, and John is very awesome. He knows she does not like him and he enjoys that by annoying her. I guess when you are born in such an uptight environment, you become like Ann. I felt she should have loosened up a bit after she got married, but it happened in the end anyway. A great job. I loved John's character. A really sweet novella to read when you want something light and refreshing.
