Jimmy was going to be a man soon like his father and he has to fulfill a ritual before that, just like everyone in Beartown. As Jimmy leaves the house, his father tells him that when he comes back he will be a man. Jimmy tells his friends about the tasks his father has set for him. Jane the squirrel is the first one he talks to. He has to climb a tree, cross the river, spend the night in a cave, and it has to be done all by himself. Jimmy is unable to do it on his own and he accepts help from others. When he gets back home, Jimmy tells his father how he asked for help and is worried if his father will get angry. Will Jimmy's father be angry with him? What does he say?

Boys Can Be Strong And Emotional: Growth Mindset by Esther Pia Cordova tackles a lot of topics; that of father and son bonding, telling boys that it is okay to have emotions like fear, worry, sadness, etc., real men are not always good at everything, the importance of making good decisions, and there is nothing wrong in asking for help. I like the way the author knits many concepts together into the plot without losing the tempo and pace. Vanessa Chromik makes the concept palpable to readers with her lively and adorable illustrations. This book definitely is good for parents to read out to their children, especially fathers to sons, and can be used in interactive sessions in classrooms where boys can be made to understand that it is okay to have emotions and asking for help does not mean they are weak. The story is encouraging and will motivate children to deal with life and decision-making in a positive way.
