In Looks That Kill by Lee Gemmill, Laura Johnson was molested by her stepfather since she was nine. The trauma from her childhood left Laura shy and reclusive. Laura found it challenging to form friendships, which led her to keep a distance from others. Employed in the Customer Service Department at Jimco, she was the object of Sam's affection, though he lacked the courage to express his feelings. After Laura received a promotion to Assistant Manager of Customer Relations, a photograph was taken of her without her glasses for the newspaper. Laura looked stunning without her glasses, and Sam had four days to confess his feelings before the photo was published. Laura's image piqued the interest of Diablo, a serial killer profiting from selling gruesome video games on the dark web. What lies ahead for Laura now that she has discovered a potential romance while also attracting the unwanted attention of a serial killer?

Looks That Kill by Lee Gemmill was both complex and fascinating. The pacing was consistent, allowing me to grasp the unfolding events fully. The murders were described in detail, and at times it was difficult to accept that someone could inflict such harm on another person. Some events were so brutal that it was tough to read. The characters were introduced individually, making it easy to connect with them. They felt genuine and relatable. Laura began as a timid and anxious woman, but her character developed throughout the story. I truly enjoyed witnessing her journey of personal growth. The masterful writing kept me engrossed throughout. This book captured my attention completely, and I found it hard to put down. I enjoyed reading this story, and it will stay with me for a long time.
