Braver Than I May Know is a marvelous children’s picture book by Grace Holloman. The story starts with showing children with various medical conditions and disabilities, from childhood cancer to Down syndrome. It is all about making children feel heard and knowing that there are other kids out there that are like them. I loved how positive it is, showing that the characters are genuinely much stronger than how they feel. I also loved how it shows the good and bad days. While not every day is good, it does not stop these children from having the best time of their lives, and how they feel does not define who they are. It shows how much each child is a warrior fighting their very hardest. The illustrations are also brilliantly done; they are bright and colorful, giving young readers with disabilities and chronic illnesses a sense of hope. Last, the breakdown at the end of the book with the awareness ribbons is a clever way to spread awareness of various medical conditions.
