In Brown Bear and the Mysterious Noise by Debbie McCranie Cannon, readers see Brown Bear getting ready for winter. He has worked hard all summer, filled the cracks in his house to keep out the winter winds, chopped lots of wood for toasty warm fires, and filled his cupboards with lots of berries for munching. He also made sure that he had lots of books for bedtime reading. When winter finally arrived, he hung out the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign and closed his door tightly. He settled into his bed but, no sooner had he dozed off, when he heard a noise. He was frightened and could not sleep till morning. Would he be able to find out what the noise was with the help of his friends?
The story is hilarious and the cause of the noise will put a smile on the faces of young readers. The illustrations are delightful and charming and readers will be able to connect well with all the characters through the pictures. It is a story of friendship as the bear is helped by his friend, Owl, in finding out what causes the noise. Kids will love listening to this story during bedtime and the book is also good for read aloud sessions in classrooms and children’s and school libraries. It is a fun read with a lot of interesting information and the funny ending makes it an endearing storybook. I hope the author writes more stories about Brown Bear for children to read and enjoy!
