Buster the Superdog Saves the Doggone World! is the fourth book in the Me Tawk Funny book series written by Neil Roy McFarlane. Hector Dumble is a whiz-kid who loves righting the wrongs of the world. Vladimir Bubblestein is a supervillain, now freed from prison and back with revenge on his mind. He wastes no time gathering the world’s greatest supervillains to hatch a plan which will give him a sense of twisted justice against Hector and his talking animal friends, Buster and Geranium. With the evil Dr Doom pulling strings to assist Vladimir Bubblestein in carrying out his evil plans, the FBI quickly brings Buster – Hector’s talking dog (aka Captain Canine) – out of retirement in the hopes that he can defeat the new, unbelievable evils which have suddenly become unleashed.
Initially, I was unsure what to expect of this oddly titled book, but I quickly found myself smiling as the story line was like nothing I had ever read before. The formulas created by the lead character were ones which would indeed make the world a better place, if this were a non-fiction title. Children from around the world would be entertained by the combination of Neil Roy McFarlane’s quick-witted characters, while sensitive issues such as school bullying are successfully tackled in a highly imaginative way. Although this book is designed for a younger audience, I believe that older audiences would also be able to easily visualize the happenings of each particular chapter as they unfold. Even the shock and awe from the police and FBI were written quite believably, and the brilliantly-written story line kept me smiling with each turn of the page. Buster the Superdog Saves the Doggone World! is a book which has led me to wanting to seek out the rest of the books in the Me Tawk Funny book series. I highly recommend Buster the Superdog Saves the Doggone World! to be read by audiences aged 6-12 due to the hilarity, the strong anti-bullying themes and the feel-good messages that this book brings.
