“Cabo & Coral’s Secret Surf Spot” by Jami Lyn and Udo Wahn is the second book in the 'Cabo and Coral' series of short stories. In this episode, the children find that their usual surfing spot is too crowded for their liking, so they decide to drive down the beach for a while and see what is in the next cove. What they find is paradise! Opening before them is a beautiful vista of decent waves, dolphins and whales cavorting, and sea birds diving for food! Other than a minor delay when their jeep gets stuck in the mud, this spot is perfect! After a grand day of surfing, they set up camp on the beach for the night. After dinner they roast marshmallows and gaze in wonder at the sparkling stars overhead. Finally dozing off, they awake refreshed the next morning, ready to do it all over again. Looking out over the surf, they notice a Marine Biologist’s boat, monitoring the fish populations on the reef, and planting kelp. The surf is pretty slow this morning, so they decide instead to walk along the beach, exploring as they work their way to the river mouth. Reminded of the Surfrider Foundation’s motto, “Rise above plastic”, they begin picking up trash they encounter along their way. Soon, other people show up and start helping clean up the beach. They are saddened by all the plastic trash that has floated down the river, but know they have helped keep it cleaner for future generations, as well as for the safety of the seabirds.

This continuation of the 'Cabo & Coral' series is yet another fun adventure with a valuable earth-friendly message. I earnestly urge you all to get these short books for the children in your lives. It won’t matter whether or not they surf; they can still learn to help keep the planet clean. It is the only one we have got!
