From the language to the plot to character development, Catherine L. Avizinis' Calya Journey-Wise: Follow the Crystal Path had me completely engrossed, lost in contemplation of the world she’s created and the path the protagonist has to travel to retrieve the Seed Crystals that would redeem her world from the curse of the devil that is Csdrel. A splendid blend of fantasy and adventure, the reader is irresistibly drawn to Calya, a gentle soul who is called to confront a damaging darkness. The High World of Gwalish may be losing its power and the key to redeeming the realms is in the Seed Crystals, some of which have been hidden in magical creatures buried alive by Csdrel. How Calya will retrieve these Seed Crystals is a mystery for the reader to find out.

Catherine L. Avizinis’ writing seduced me, literally. It’s the first book of hers I have read and it is the kind that you read and want to read again. I experienced the same sensations I had while reading Harry Potter. I love to be transported into exotic worlds, I love reading about strong conflicts, I love original and well-developed characters I can follow, and this book seems to contain it all. The plot is daring, unique, and masterfully spun. The writing leaps off the pages like magic, with strong imagery, and plot-driven and insightful dialogues that contain a lot of wisdom. The names of characters and places have a magic feel to them. I was lost in these pages, reading with a lot of excitement as I discovered the twists in the plot. The author even insinuates that the man the protagonist is in love with could be the devil she is fighting to destroy, and this helps to heighten the sense of the tragic, the intrigue, and the overwhelming conflict. Calya Journey-Wise: Follow the Crystal Path is one of those rare books we all want to watch on screen.

Calya Journey-Wise: Follow the Crystal Path by Catherine L. Avizinis is the kind of fantasy that recalls the beauty of fairytales and the enchanting world of Efland. Listen as the words sing in your heart with their unique magic: “Ago and away… Ago and away… and once upon a time in the land of Gwalish, far above the mists of the Sacred Mountains and far beyond the edge of the Cloudless Sky, there lived Thalos and Fahal.” This begins the second book in a spellbinding series. In these pages, we find an enthralling drama of the struggle between good and evil, crafted with style and in a setting that is unique, a story that stands apart in light of its beauty and originality.

Seed Crystals are the key to controlling the Magickal essence of the Realms. In this epic fantasy, the High World of Gwalish no longer functions as it used to and there is no hope that things could get better. Calya is on an arduous mission to restore the magic that would save the three realms, but then the evil Csdrel prowls the land unseen, sowing pain and darkness. Can the one whose magic is gentle and kind be able to stand up to the cruelty of the son of darkness? And what if the man she loves is the source of the evil that could destroy their worlds? Unknown to her, her journey has begun and she is retrieving the Seed Crystals that have been hidden in magical creatures buried alive by the evil one.

Calya Journey-Wise: Follow the Crystal Path is a mesmerizing tale and the writing contains magic. It evokes seasons of awe and wonderment, delighting readers with the insightful and intelligent dialogues, the breathtaking actions, and the mysteries it proclaims. The characters are awesome. There are very beautiful lines that reflect a healthy philosophy of life. One of such lines which I loved most was: “Sometimes it is not about what you try to get, but what you give.” I am stunned by Catherine L. Avizinis’ creative and effusive imagination and I am a sure fan of her stories.

Calya Journey-Wise: Follow the Crystal Path by Catherine L. Avizinis is the second novel in this series. The novel follows the kind, gentle and comforting Calya, the young princess who has the power to rule the three worlds, but is she capable of doing it? Her life is not easy, especially when she has such a strong adversary trying to fight her every step of the way. She is a dutiful princess and she knows that she has to try to restore Magic, but it is not easy when she has her suspicions that the High World of Gwalish has something terribly wrong with it.

Calya is not receiving any help from them and she knows that this has something to do with the evil Csdrel. He walks among them, unseen by anyone, but he and his evil powers are there, Calya knows it. But there is one more thing that she is afraid of. Her love, Lord Tolus, is hers, but she has no idea if he is actually the evil Csdrel? There are suspicious rumors, however, and no one knows for sure. Now, Calya is on the Crystal Path and she has to do something fast or else she will lose it all and so will the subjects of the three worlds.

Catherine L. Avizinis is a really good writer, she knows the power of her words and she knows how to use them. She used them really well and this is the reason why we have a very strong and determined lead in Calya. Her world is very well-developed and created; Catherine draws some very real pictures with her words. The whole novel became very real for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
