Join a baby cuttlefish on her underocean adventures with Elizabeth Connell Lewis and Mark S. Lewis' Camilla Learns to Shine. This rhyming picture book follows the story of a baby cuttlefish named Camilla. Camilla was the only one among her siblings to stay by her mom's side after she hatched. The rest of the newborn cuttlefish left their family home to hunt on their own. As she grew up, Camilla realized that, unlike her siblings, she was flamboyant, small, and a little stubby. Her mom assured her that her traits only made her more adept at moving and disguising herself. Camilla soon gained the confidence to explore on her own. She discovers she is good at getting food for herself and uses her unique abilities to help some barnacles and starfish.

Informative, educational, and entertaining in equal measure, Camilla Learns to Shine is a fun-filled adventure for children. Camilla is a young cuttlefish whom kids can look up to. She learns to believe in herself and her abilities, is kind-hearted, and always willing to help others. Authors Elizabeth Connell Lewis and Mark S. Lewis's engaging story teaches a few valuable lessons about self-acceptance, family, and love. Readers will also discover some interesting facts about cuttlefish in this book. Camilla's journey of self-discovery will especially resonate with young readers who may sometimes feel a little bit low on confidence themselves. The mesmerizing artwork by Katya Kuznetsova is the cherry on top of an already perfect children's book. For parents, I highly recommend introducing this book to your kids.
