Captured by the Holy Spirit by Lisa Leikam is one woman’s narrative of her journey of faith, a powerful testament of the strange workings of grace and a beautiful relationship with God. In part one of this heartwarming book, the author states: “When a new chapter in life opens un-expectantly you don’t know how it will affect you, where it will take you, and what it will bring. You don’t know when, where, or how your life legacy will proceed.” A new chapter in her life was a calling which came unexpectedly and in a very strange way. It happened when Lenny, her brother, committed suicide. She knew things will never be the same again, but little did she know that events following his death would set her walking on a new path, trusting, opening her soul to the reality of a life bigger than death.
Captured by the Holy Spirit is far more than what I expected it to be. I was hoping to read about strange visions and prophecies, but no, this story is a story of faith. A simple faith, a human faith that reaches out in response to a love that calls from beyond our fears, our hurts, and our uncertainties. This book is a powerful story showing that God answers our prayers and that He does speak to us in our suffering, through our pain, and that His light does shine through the darkness of our unbelief.
Lisa Leikam’s writing is filled with beautiful reflections about life, faith, God, death, and healing. She points out in the preface that “The older we get the more we realize how truly blessed we are.” Reading this book has provoked in me a powerful urge to look back at my own life, at the losses, the pain, the self-doubt and the uncertainty, and to discover a God loving me beyond my imperfections. It is so beautiful, so human, so touching and inspiring that you’ll want to read it again before passing it on. This book is, undoubtedly, a gift of faith that will change the way most of us look at life, reality, and God.
