Center Stage Confidence by Justin Guarini is a concise view of the author’s career, but also a guidebook on gaining confidence to pursue your own dreams. Personal experiences and mentions of well-known celebrities and mentors are part of this book. This inspirational book is easy to read and entertaining. The author shares a glimpse behind some of the pivotal scenes in his life that, in retrospect, have taught him lessons. He suggests appreciating failures and using them as learning points. Sprinkled throughout the book are headings with blank spaces for the reader to fill in. So, although the author is a stage performer, this title is less literal and more about how you can interpret your own goals and dreams.
Having only “known” and been a fan of Justin Guarini from American Idol years ago, I loved this book and found it to be profound on many levels. Organized and interesting, the book is not a one-sitting read. I suggest savoring each section so you can apply the author’s process to your own life. Relying on his experiences as well as those of others, Guarini proves that through openness to mentorship and self-reflection, you can become brave enough to succeed. Through the writing of this book, Guarini is not only a singer, performer, and interviewer, but can also add motivational writing talent to his resume! Experience with both failure and success has earned him the ability to share his advice with others. I found that this isn’t a self-help book giving specific steps to success, but rather a personalized guidebook that I will author in my own words; a script for my life. As Shakespeare said, “All the world’s a stage.” Center Stage Confidence is not just about gaining the confidence to perform, but also the courage to define and embrace your dreams and then live them fully. And because your stage isn’t set yet, you can, and should, write your own script.
