Armed with bravery and a desire for adventure, Regina Petra Meyer examined the prospect of traveling to faraway places to deal with a distressing restlessness that had been seething inside her for a long time. She accomplished exactly that and found a new love in the Caribbean, which prompted her to rethink and question her heart's desires. Regina soon found herself alone - physically and psychologically - in a foreign nation, where she had to start over while dealing with dishonest employers and complicated immigration procedures. Fortunately, each obstacle she overcame allowed her to mature as a person and taught her something new. In Change of Course: Sailing into Love and Adversity on Caribbean Shores, Meyer recalls her travels at sea, living in the Caribbean, working on her love life, and finding her place in the world during a pivotal point in her life.

This book is a treasure trove of good features. Although the spectacular descriptions of the stunning sea and the sumptuous, multi-million dollar super yachts are certainly captivating and exciting, the deeply meditative comments lend yet another level to the story's intricate layers. Regina Petra Meyer engages the reader by exposing her deepest thoughts and sentiments about personal matters such as feeling a genuine sense of belonging and being entirely accepted as a white woman in Antigua, which has a mostly black population. Change of Course was both entertaining and educational for me, mostly because it displays ideas that I feel we all ought to embrace as people, such as seeing new cultures and living in a different environment, refusing to accept bullies, appreciating the beauty of nature, and much more. It's the kind of book you'd be happy to have in your collection. Excellent work, Regina!

I loved this book and although I haven’t sailed, I was thoroughly entertained by Regina’s adventures on the oceans. It was interesting to read about her experience of living in a small Caribbean village as the only white person and deal with the unique challenges she was confronted with. This was a book that drew me in and took me on an adventure into a completely new environment. I highly recommend it.

Many adventure books feature men who explore exotic locations and find love and adventure. However, this also happens to women, in real life, as we can read in this memoir / love story / adventure.
What I loved about this book was also how the writer described the characters. Real life people can be lovable and weird at the same time, and Regina Petra Meyer definitely knows how to put this into words. A great read!

Change of Course - Sailing into Love & Adversity on Caribbean Shores is an incredible memoir and once I started reading it, I could not put it down!
Regina's journey is brave and inspiring. With her passion for sailing ignited by her father when she was just ten years old, the pull of the deep blue sea was always strong. In her mid thirties, when Regina found her life at a crossroads, she decided to book a one way ticket to the Caribbean joining the crew of a small, vintage racing yacht. This was just the beginning of her expedition as a sea gypsy... sailing exotic and wondrous locations.
I loved Regina's sense of adventure and her curiosity for life, not to mention her ability to always see the best in our fellow humans. In an often male-dominated industry, Regina's grit and grace saw her overcome all sorts of obstacles...she even found romance with a local.
'Change of Course' is an uplifting story about finding your purpose in life and will leave you smiling long after you've read it.

When I was a young woman, I dreamed of exploring the world by sea, perhaps crewing on a sailboat. Although this vision never materialized, author Regina Petra Meyer had the courage and determination at age 36 to leave everything behind and fulfill a similar dream. I read her book, Change of Course: Sailing into Love & Adversity on Caribbean Shores, in one sitting and basked in her many adventures—from the allure of the high seas to romantic temptations on terra firma.

Feeling stuck in her comfortable, yet predictable love relationship in Australia, Ms. Meyer, who is originally from Switzerland, flew to the Caribbean and found work as a crew member on a yacht that would eventually sail back to her home. However, after a night of racy dancing with "Jay," an attractive local Antiguan, leads to other exhilarating encounters, she is forced to reconsider her long-term plans. Should she forfeit her travel adventures and sense of security and instead stay with Jay in his no-frills shack and explore the horizons of her heart?

In addition to the unfolding of this cross-cultural romance, I was riveted by Ms. Meyer's descriptions of nail-biting moments on the high seas, as well as her interactions with fellow crew members and surly sea captains. After the story ended, I was eager to know more and am delighted that she is working on a sequel memoir.

If you love travel, adventures, and sailing with a big splash of romance, then I heartily recommend Change of Course. You may become so inspired that it changes your course, too.
