John Sletten lives in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania with his second wife Ellen and their three sons. To all appearances, John is just another office worker, but he is actually an undercover worker for the FBI, investigating corporate fraud and money misdirection. John, or Jack Oleson as he is known, helps bring down Atlantic States Surety and is assigned to look into the workings of PAMDEVA Rental Company. As Jack investigates, people around him keep dying. Then, when his wife Ellen dies mysteriously, John wants to kill those in power who have killed his wife although he was warned by many colleagues around him. John knows that the FBI has incredible power. On page 120 he says, "We eavesdrop on private phone conversations, videotape who goes on the bedrooms, subpeona witnesses to testify before a grand jury, open mailboxes and read mail, and obtain telephone toll records and other confidential documents, including income tax returns". But is John ready to acknowledge the power of FBI powerhouse Paul Gordon Charles who has set up what he calls the "Center of the Universe" in smalltown Wallace, Montana? This is one of 13 places that aliens are helping establish as underground locations which will be safe from the coming all-out nuclear attacks. Where does John Sletten fit into all this?

"Chaos" is a well-written second book in the trilogy that author John Austin Sletten has written about his main character, John Sletten, who comes from the innocence of Minnesota to work for the FBI and finds that all is not what it seems. "Chaos"'s characters, otherworldly or still here on earth, are believable as they visit over drink or after drink or just go about their daily undercover business. The dialogue among characters is good and the plot line as well as the author's creation of an underground universe are superb. The theme is unique and suits the present day world quite well. "Chaos" is an addition to reading lists everywhere.
