A former police detective is forced to place his drinking on the back burner to solve a murder in the fast-paced sci-fi noir mystery, Chivalry Will Get You Dead by Ed Robins. It’s been four months since Tom Devoe lost his job on the force. Four months since his girlfriend left him. Now, he has been implicated in the murder of the ship’s most notorious crime boss’s fiancée, and he has a limited amount of time to uncover the real culprit. Struggling to remember the alcohol-blurred events leading to the discovery of the dead girl, Tom sets out to clear his name before he becomes the next one on the crime boss’s roster. As they hurtle through space, Tom searches the height and depth of the ship from some of the poshest to the most seedy places, following clues, uncovering lies, making new alliances, and even more powerful enemies. The clock is ticking; someone will pay for the girl’s death, and unfortunately for Tom, he is at the heart of the crime. The ship may be large, but the vessel is sealed; there is no escape from the inevitable.
Explore a new dark, seedy underworld in the genre-bending neo-noir novel, Chivalry Will Get You Dead by Ed Robins. The noir voice is so strong that it reached out and grabbed me, pulling me deep into the science fiction storyworld from the first page. The characters' depth has been unusually developed, and I fell in love with the cast from the introduction of the first characters to the last. The storyworld is rich, and it kept me firmly rooted in the ship as it whirled through space. This is a read-through-all-hours-of-the-night book; the storyline and pacing held me captive to the end. Written as a true noir, I deeply enjoyed the voice of the tale. Like most noir novels, this one is for more mature readers as it contains adult themes and some violence.
