Cicada: A Stone Age World Novel (The Cicada Series Book 1) by M.L. Banner is an engaging apocalyptic story where a group of people including scientists are trying to find solutions to the solar storms slowly causing harm to the earth. Now these scientists are living in an impenetrable walled place, Cicada, which shields them from evil forces on the other side. Cicada is the new hope for humanity and is a safe haven to all those living and working there. There are a lot of threats from outside the wall; from the Red Robes, others who want to take the resources of Cicada, and another walled area wanting to destroy Cicada, but the most dangerous of them all is the unknown evil lurking inside their own sanctuary. Will they be able to discover it and save their safe haven from destruction?
The story is action packed from the beginning to the end and has many dimensions that make it a compelling read. The setting is realistic and the characters are developed well as the story progresses. The story has action, mystery, intrigue, battles, deception, and science fiction that make it a fascinating page turner. The author puts a lot of detail into the plot and characters, and exposes the blunders that humans make despite having technology within their reach. The twists and turns will definitely make readers eager for the next book in this series.
