Circle of Nine: Mercy in the Mist by Valerie Biel follows Brigit, a teenage girl from an Irish mythological bloodline called the Tuatha de Danann. She and her parents, who have just gotten back together, and Bree, her newborn sister, live in a small town. On the outside, her life seems normal, but secretly, she is still struggling with the memories of the fight with her grandfather, Malachi. She finds information about missing people from the same week they were in Ireland, making her worry that the case could point back to the Circle of Nine. At the same time, Bree, her younger sister, starts showing surprising magical abilities. This leaves her trying to balance school, magic, and family.

Mercy in the Mist by Valerie Biel is the fourth book in the Circle of Nine series, and follows Brigit and her family's story. It moves at a slow pace, and I enjoyed reading about the aftermath of the Circle of Nine teaming up together to defeat Malachi and his followers as they tried to steal the Tuatha's sacred treasures. The mystery of the missing people is another aspect of this book that I enjoyed. The plot comes together slowly as Brigit gathers facts from her parents, Bodie, Tyler, and Adele. There is a lot of emotional tension while reading, especially with Brigit's nightmares, Bree's mind voice, and much more. The plot covers themes of family loyalty, responsibility, fear, honesty, and more. The author writes realistically, and the relationships feel genuine. This is a book that you will share with others after finishing.
