Author Biography

NICOLE KILPATRICK was born and raised in the sun-kissed Philippines islands, but now works and lives in the asphalt jungle that is New York City. A lifelong lover of books, she read The Godfather when she was twelve and instantly fell in love. While she still enjoys the occasional gangster novel, she has since discovered her true passion in young adult fantasy. Mario Puzzo was quickly replaced by J.K. Rowling in this author’s heart. When not writing, she can be found lounging in a cabin by a river, curled up on a couch reading a book, or concocting recipes in her cozy kitchen. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband. Clover is her debut novel.

Clover has lived a charmed life for the past eighteen years. Despite her mother leaving and her father being imprisoned, things seem to work out for her, and she is perfectly happy with her Mama Ruth. But everything changes on her eighteenth birthday when a handsome young man named Finn appears with startling news. He claims to be a leprechaun who has provided her luck throughout her life and now she is under a powerful curse. Instantly, Clover finds herself embroiled in a journey to free herself from the curse, a plot to permanently sever the link between the Faerie realm and the human world, and with three wishes from a man she is quickly falling for.

Clover is an enchanting, emotional, and fun-filled reimagining of the mythology of leprechauns. Nicole Kilpatrick brings a fresh spark to the beloved tropes of the fantasy romance genre with the chemistry between characters and the added challenges of her unique take on the Faerie realm. The story features an unsettling villain and a dynamic cast of supporting characters, such as a charming shapeshifter, a heartbroken queen, and a sort-of talking cat. With plenty of surprises to be had as the story unfolds, I was hooked from the beginning and continued to be roped in with new revelations, thrilling twists, and well-crafted subplots. For those seeking a fantasy that perfectly merges tried and true with brand new, Clover is a fantastic next read!

Cassandra Alling narrated this edition of Clover. Alling brings the characters to life through clearly distinguished voices and well-executed Irish accents. I especially loved her choices in voicing non-human characters, involving fun elements while keeping a clear voice. Her performance of the piece is nuanced and comforting. Clover is a wonderfully written and performed piece.
