Everyone seeks a sense of belonging, and children are no exception. Club of Our Own is a heartwarming picture book that follows a young girl's search for friends. Written by Gina De Vettori and featuring colorful illustrations by Jet De Vettori, this rhyming tale opens with young Faith preparing for school, determined to meet new friends. Faith arrives at school and sees a clique of four who quickly spurn her efforts to make friends with them. With a heavy heart, Faith draws back but soon meets another young girl named Joyce, who, like Faith, is also interested in art. The two bond over their shared love of art and become fast friends. Now, it's time for other kids to join their "Wolf Pack." Will the clique of four change their ways?

Club of Our Own is a beautiful story that teaches a gentle lesson about self-belief, kindness, and perseverance. Sometimes, it's not easy to make new friends in school, but believing in yourself and having the confidence to express yourself can help you bond with others who share your interests. Gina De Vettori's delightful tale demonstrates that and more. Kids in elementary school will find a lot to love about this book. The characters are adorable. Faith and Joyce's growing friendship is something many young readers will be able to relate to. Jet De Vettori's vibrant artwork breathes life into these characters and makes them even more entertaining to the reader. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. If you're a parent with children in elementary school, I highly recommend this picture book.

All this young girl wants is to be a friend, have a friend, and feel like she belongs. In Gina De Vettori’s Club of Our Own, some mean girls give this young girl the cold shoulder treatment. She feels ostracized and can’t understand why no one wants to be her friend. Then she meets Joyce who invites her to draw pictures with her. She has found a friend and now she’s inspired to make others welcome in their small friendship circle, to create a club of their own where everyone matters. Their kind teacher suggests they pledge, “I matter. I am enough. I choose happiness.” It’s enough to welcome more members to their growing club and they all learn the importance of “Be positive. Be yourself. Be your own kind of cool.”

Gina De Vettori’s picture book, Club of Our Own, is an elementary-age storybook nurturing girl power, confidence, and self-esteem. Told in rhyming verse, in the first person narrative, this clever story takes young readers through the trials and struggles of making friends, feeling good about oneself, and being confident. Self-empowerment is a powerful tool for young people, and it helps steer them through difficult times, tough relationships and so much more. The illustrations are bright, bold, and colorful, and help move the story along. It’s important to have faith in oneself and to believe that you can do anything you set your mind to doing. Friendships are important in life and they help make people feel like they belong. This is a great story to encourage young readers to find their place, and their club and to believe in all that they are and all that they can do.
