Cluckin’ Clutch Commotion by Max Parrott is the seventh book in the Ruff McPaw Mystery series. Sometimes mysteries are closer to home than you want them to be. Following a tragic tractor accident, the new mechanic’s death is quickly dismissed but Angela knows better. Her theory seems to be correct when she discovers that the brakes were tampered with. Now the only option is for her and Ruff - her adorable canine sidekick - to investigate the accident as a murder. Angela digs into the victim’s life where she uncovers interesting clues, including a fiancee who fights for animal rights and the shocking discovery that his death could have been a crime of passion. The animals in town start getting sick, which makes her concerned for the well-being of her beloved pets, but it does give her an important clue as she believes there’s a direct link between the cases.
Angela returns with another delightful case to solve with help from her trusty sidekick and her charming boyfriend David. The mystery has many delightful twists that lead to a satisfying conclusion. Max Parrott always manages to bring a smile to your face through heartwarming moments and a well-rounded assortment of characters. Parrott knows how to successfully capture genuine character dynamics which gives the mystery plenty of heart. Each of the characters helps her sort through clues which effectively engages you with the mystery. Her parents are always there to provide guidance and give the story wholesome moments that touch the heart and make you care about Angela’s family. Angela and David’s relationship continues to progress with cute moments that feel organic. His quirkiness is an ideal balance to her personality, which provides the mystery with a light dose of playfulness and romance. Animals continue to be an important aspect of the series with Eggatha and Ruff maintaining their roles as loveable sidekicks. Parrott makes them well-rounded characters and puts them at the core of the investigation when animals start getting sick. This is an important part of the mystery as animal welfare is a key aspect of the series. Another fun-filled adventure, Cluckin’ Clutch Commotion is a humorous and charming mystery with heartwarming moments, animal rights, and some romance.
