Artifacts, clues, and signs become a path leading to a startling reality in Cognizance by S.A. Wallace. It is a work of exploration and discovery of worlds and possibilities as the reader follows expert explorers uncovering cryptic texts. But the most exciting part of the story is what the texts lead to and the many challenges and dangers they must overcome to get to the heart of it. But can they? Now throw in an ancient temple hidden in the heart of the jungle, and a hidden chamber in a desert, and you have a tale as exciting as any adventure can be. But what do the temple and the chamber have in common? It’s for the reader to find out.

What made this a great read for me is the uniqueness of the author’s idea, the possibility of a future where human beings can connect with their origins. The writing is beautiful and it flows gracefully. The opening of the story might be slow for some readers, but the pacing speeds up as the reader turns from one page to another. The setting offers a cornucopia of amazing sights, natural habitats, and wonderful images to entice the reader’s senses. Character development is also well executed and I enjoyed following Dave, Chenoa, Katie, Mark, and Matt. The conversations are real and S.A. Wallace knows how to use dialogue to build character and plot, while quickening the reader's pulse. Cognizance is a unique story with a powerful theme and characters that are as memorable as they are likable.
