In her memoir Coming Out of the Metaphysical Closet, Lisa Rhyne challenges what has been widely accepted as fact and expert credibility, exploring a range of topics from sugar's impact on cognition to global health challenges. Rhyne discusses reality, memory formation, altered states, and questions psychiatric labels. Hypnotic experiments, telepathy, and hallucinations are looked into, as are areas such as Anthony Peake's work on Alzheimer's. Neurolinguistic programming is critiqued, and metaphysical concepts like the Akashic field are introduced. Rhyne suggests humans are patterns of light and information, connecting quantum physics, metaphysics, and spirituality. Her book is a treasure trove of details about personal experience, including a life-threatening health episode, spiritual links, and evolving psychic abilities, leaning toward the transformative power of metaphysical beliefs. Rhyne also shares instances of disrupting electronic devices and weather manipulation, providing a comprehensive exploration of metaphysical topics and their impact on health and consciousness.
There is a lot to unpack after reading Coming Out of the Metaphysical Closet by Lisa Rhyne, but I certainly enjoyed the page-turning journey that got me here. I think my greatest fear going in was that the complexity of a lot of Rhyne's theories and the exhaustive research behind them was going to overwhelm my laywoman's brain. What I found was an accessible and engrossing book that perfectly blended the detailed information required to present studies on a foundation of fact with Rhyne's own life stories and the scatterings of others to humanize it. As a woman of East Asian descent who was born and raised in the West, what stands out to me is Rhyne's integration of Eastern wisdom through her experiences with qigong, tai chi, and kung fu grandmasters. For instance, GrandMaster Zhou Ting-Jue is depicted as a source of guidance, a connection to morphic fields, and a direct incorporation of Eastern practices into the metaphysical message. She then applies concepts from quantum physics with reference to Dr. David R. Hawkins and his "Map of Consciousness" to provide a Western scientific underpinning and grounding the metaphysical into well-established principles. This is an impressive, intelligent, and thought-provoking body of work with a lot to offer. Very highly recommended.
