Author Biography

Born Oct.12 1955 in Chicago Il. Marred in 1977. and was quickly blessed with two children, Raun in March of 78' and Kelly in Aug. of 79'. I owned a successful body shop at the time and would spend a lot of spare time taking adventure walks in the nearby forest preserves with.my kids. As we would navigate the mysterious wooded paths, I would spin tall tales that we really got a kick out of. Well, here I am some 25 plus years later putting tall yarns to print in hopes maybe other kids would like them also.

"CottonTop and the Mysterious Shadows" by R. J. Ryan is a great children's story that introduces us to Cory and Katy. These two kids are happy campers when their parents let them go into the woods by themselves for the first time. When they walk into the woods they meet a family of rabbits, a mother rabbit and three little bunnies. An enjoyable day is spent in the woods but when it is almost dark there is suddenly a large and looming shadow that appears behind some bushes. This shadow is scary and sends chills down everyone's spine.

It has been a while since I have honestly sat down and read a children's book. However, I have a little cousin who is starting to read on his own and I wanted to find a book that I feel he could enjoy and R.J Ryan has hit the jackpot story-wise. For a kid this is a very engaging story with loveable and warm characters that will keep a young reader entertained. You have the core of childhood fun with an adventure in the woods and meeting new friends; the best part is that they are cute and cuddly animal friends. The adventure turns into a thriller with the arrival of the dark shadow. Kids love a good adventure and so do I, and so I really did like this book. It was a fast read for me of course and I think that kids will find it an easy one too. The themes are good and solidly perfect for small readers.

This book has just the right amount of suspense to keep the reader on their toes, but not too scary for the kids. It will keep the reader eager to flip the page and read on!
