Counterstrike: Heaven Sent by Travis L. Salisbury and Janet C. Smyth is a Christian-themed thriller in the Heroic Measures series. Kate Greenwood was driving from Denver, Colorado, to Washington D.C. when she felt a premonition from God. She discovered a car rolled over in a ditch and a man with blood on his face. She pulled over to the side of the road to help him but was stunned when he told her to turn around. Believing that he was in shock, she refused to leave him without medical help. He relented and informed her he needed to go to Denver. Kate learned that Agent Gareth McFadyn had been attacked while waiting for an informant. It wasn’t long before Gareth noticed that his assailants were following them. Kate’s Good Samaritan act had produced unintended consequences.

Travis L. Salisbury and Janet C. Smyth built suspense with such intensity that it overflowed from each page. Kate and Gareth engaged in several philosophical discussions and I understood the reason that Kate compared Gareth to a mythical knight. The inner turmoil Kate experienced was described in vivid detail. Kate constantly mulled over how long Gareth could avoid death. The conversations with Gladys and Al gave Kate snippets as to who Gareth was. The transitions from one day to the next made the plot easy to follow, and I looked forward to each moment Kate and Gareth were together. Faith in God is a major part of Gareth and Kate’s relationship, as they frequently engaged in prayer together. There is never a point where the book becomes predictable and danger looms heavily throughout. The end left me wanting to read the sequel. Counterstrike: Heaven Sent will capture the mind of readers who like intrigue, action, espionage, and Christian-themed romance novels.
