Crossing Jordan Rivers by ReGina A Etter introduces a feisty yet vulnerable young woman. In the course of her day, Jordan challenges Benae` regarding an affair with a married man. In turn, Benae` challenges Jordan to look closer at her relationship with Rick, who carries baggage that will not allow him to trust. Shaken by a text from an ex-partner, Sam, Jordan temporarily loses her focus, but a sermon encourages her to focus on her “First Love” of God. When she is offered the position of Director of a program at BEE WELL, Rick opposes her completing a Ph.D. The death of her friend Gloria is a shock. How will Jordan find God’s plan for her life?
Crossing Jordan Rivers by ReGina A Etter read like a reflective journal written by the name character. I found the narrative of Jordan, who had suffered her share of what she termed “church hurt”, very charismatic. The story demonstrated how relationships, people, and even things we love and value, could be “Vices” interfering with our connection to God. I appreciated the gems of relationship wisdom woven into the fictional narrative. The idea of “distraction attraction” was incredibly illuminating. According to this theory, false relationships may “feel good” and “look good”, but are not good for us. I could identify with the pain and confusion of being trapped in such a relationship caused. I found the lesson especially illuminating because the examples included steady relationships in which the partners did not feel truly valued. Crossing Jordan Rivers by ReGina A Etter proved to be contemporary, engaging, and thought-provoking inspirational fiction.
