Freya Montague is a strong-minded witch in 1698 who refuses to marry a powerful warlock who wants her for her powers in Curse of the Montagues by Stacey Coverstone. When Garrett Smythe takes his revenge by casting an immortality spell on Freya, her brother, Bram, jumps in the way to save her, but they both are hit. Meanwhile, their Aunt Gillian casts a spell sending them to the future and far away from Massachusetts.

Morgan Ledet and Kendall Kelly are cousins in the small Florida town where the Montagues live. Morgan has the gift of seeing and talking with spirits and becomes involved with Freya, who has dreamed about him for centuries. Bram and Kendall are also drawn to one another so the question is how they will pursue relationships when the siblings are immortal. The past catches up to Freya and Bram, though, and Smythe still wants Freya for his own. Fortunately, a warning from Aunt Gillian prepares them, and Morgan and Kendall are willing to fight for them as well. The showdown is spectacular, but what is the cost of solving Freya and Bram’s problems?

Stacey Coverstone has written an engaging and exciting story about soulmates, witches, time travel and voices from the beyond in Curse of the Montagues. The characters are well developed and the action keeps the pages turning as you follow the budding of two relationships that may be doomed to failure by circumstances beyond anyone’s control. Curse of the Montagues is a great read – long enough to sink your teeth into, but short enough to be pleasant and enjoyable. Very nicely done!
