In Daisy's Choice by Mike Owens, we are introduced to Daisy Sugarbush, an eighteen-year-old 'daddy's girl' who would rather go around with her dad, while he attends to his handyman business, than do what most young women usually do like wear nice dresses and follow the latest hairstyles, to the consternation of her mom. Her life, however, takes a very unexpected turn when her dad dies from cancer. Things take a turn for the worse when she is involved in a freak accident that leaves her severely burned and blind. Recuperating in the hospital, the idea of ending her life crosses Daisy's mind. Disfigured for life, she is released from the hospital to face her new world.
Mike Owen's novel, Daisy's Choice, is a heart-wrenching story of a young woman whose whole life is completely altered by an accident. The story unravels in Warrensburg, a little place southeast of Virginia. At a leisurely pace, we learn the family dynamics that are rather unusual but definitely filled with love. There are a number of characters in the novel that stand out and that's because Mike Owens develops his characters superbly. A courageous young woman, Daisy is an unforgettable character fated to have more than her share of life's trials. Daisy's Choice is a story of unconditional love found in the most unusual of places and circumstances. And just when things finally fall into their rightful places, Owens springs a surprise twist that is quite unexpected. A very interesting read!
