Dangerous Secret by Jessica Lauryn is a delightful romantic murder mystery with a cliffhanger ending. The story revolves around the Washington Valley Hotel in North Conway, where a murder had been committed, but the police said it was suicide. The hotel was closed for three months. Abigail MacKenzie is trying to find out why her father was gunned down six years ago. The man who was killed at the hotel was the only witness to his murder. Abigail and her friend Julia get jobs at the hotel when management is ready to open the doors again. Instead of getting a cleaning crew in to get the hotel ready, Mark Becker, the Senior Manager, and Shane Dempsey think otherwise and have their staff do all the cleaning. Other characters include Ryan Newberry, the front desk supervisor, Alex Westwood, who owns the hotel, Sheldon, a school leaver, and Kimberly. Other characters make their appearances from time to time and lead the reader on a merry dance to find out what is going on at the hotel.
Dangerous Secret by Jessica Lauryn is a fast-moving book that will have you reading late to find out who the murderers are, how a secret society is involved, and if there are drugs and smuggling involved. The author takes the reader on a journey through the lives of the characters, which brings a unique understanding of each character and how they think and operate. Jessica Lauryn has made her characters very real, and the reader actually can relate to the characters as they walk through the story. I found the characters to be so down-to-earth and believable that they could be anyone you would meet during your work day. The turns that the plot takes leave the reader guessing as to the reason for the murders, but the twist at the end will have them wanting more. This is a book well worth more than one read. The reader will find themselves looking to see if there is a sequel just to find out more. Thank you for an interesting and exciting read.
