Wyvern is the opening book of the Dark Lair Trilogy in the fantasy, adventure, and mythology subgenres. The work is best suited to the general adult reading audience. Penned by author D J O'Brien, the intense quest for the lost crystals of power unfolds as the Prince of Shade stirs, threatening to plunge the world into chaos once more. War rages, unity crumbles, and the ancient evil threatens to break free from its prison. Three races once stood against this malevolent force, using three crystals to seal its dark influence. However, the glory days have faded, heroes are scarce, and divisions among the races run deep. As time grows short, the battle against evil becomes increasingly desperate, and the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

Author D J O'Brien has crafted a work that offers stacks of epic fantasy and brilliant adventure, creating a compelling narrative filled with tension and intrigue. The looming threat of the Prince of Shade and the race against time kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly turning pages in this well-paced work to discover the fates of the characters and the outcome of their quest. The richly imagined world utilizes some fantastic descriptive lexis to bring it to life beyond the cinematic, offering a multi-sensory experience that feels like you’ve been thrown into the center of it all. I also really appreciated the close narrative work that’s gone into creating the diverse cast of characters, each with their own idiosyncrasies and unique way of speaking. What results is an exhilarating journey into a world teetering on the brink of destruction. Overall, Wyvern is a gripping tale of heroism, sacrifice, and the eternal struggle between light and darkness that has left me eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series.
