David's Gathering: Truth in the Lite of Bible Prophecy by D. S. Boyce is inspired by the Book of Revelation and it opens with a brilliant introduction to the narrator, the Beloved Apostle, and the author of the last book of the Bible: “Beloved, it is a name my master called me. Jabbing a stick through the long flickering flames, my senses are still fresh of my head resting upon his bosom. All his passion, all his love caress me even now as I recall his death and transfiguration.” In this narrative, the author rewrites John’s visions and explores themes of faith, salvation, humanity, and the ultimate purpose of humankind. Lyrical and filled with religious symbolism, the author describes the end times and the destiny of humanity and establishes a powerful link between the disciple that Jesus loved most and His Master.
There is a spiritual energy that runs through each page and the imagery is as telling as that readers encounter in the Book of Revelation. Biblical references abound, like allusions to the Old Serpent, the Day of the Lord, the Beast, and many others. D. S. Boyce re-enacts the drama of end times and powerfully portrays the triumph of the faith of God’s people. The prose is gorgeous and I enjoyed the vivid imagery. For instance, here is a powerful description that exemplifies the style of the writing: ‘A truly exceptional brute, astonished as I realized, this creature connected the throne of heaven with the earth. Its innumerable eyes lie in invisible wheels that lifted and lowered as it traversed between the heavens. Uncountable eyes that looked in every direction. Wings set on each side enabled it to move in any direction in the blink of an eye.” David's Gathering: Truth in the Lite of Bible Prophecy captures a powerful moment of the prophecy of John and invites readers to make the ultimate leap of faith and to trust their lives to the Lamb that was slain for them. It is a work of great beauty and inspiration and it showcases the author’s deep knowledge of the scriptures.
