Dear Babies: Crazy Life, Simply Explained by Amy Denby is not your typical parenting book. It is a book of letters to Amy’s babies. Every time Amy experiences something new, she writes them a funny and honest letter. The letters follow the whole ten months she is pregnant, and she often compares her experiences to different movies.

I identified with Amy in Dear Babies: Crazy Life, Simply Explained because I am also the immature one in my relationship. A lot of what she writes to the babies, I have thought as well. Just like Amy, the excitement in my life stopped when I found out I was pregnant. It came to a complete halt, and there it remains. Amy puts a very humorous spin on the things that she experiences. My personal favorite was the December 1st letter, after the babies were born. The letter brought back my own memories of having a C-section and hearing the baby scream for the first time. Amy has a gift of explaining the details of her experiences to readers. It was almost like I was right there with her. I also loved that she told the babies the size they were each time she wrote to them. Mostly comparing them to fruits and vegetables.

I really enjoyed this book. I wish this book had been around when I was pregnant. When I first saw the book, I thought it was going to be a parenting advice book, but it was not. Yet I still gained knowledge from it. Amy writes: “You want to leave a trail you can be proud of.” This is something that I could not agree more with. I recommend Dear Babies: Crazy Life, Simply Explained for anyone who is or has been pregnant.
