Dearest Clementine by Candace Robinson is a masterpiece of the horror and romance genres. The beloved Clementine has been abducted by an evil demon named Bogdi and it is up to her true love Dorin to rescue her before she is forever bound to the fiend and dragged into Hell. As Dorin relentlessly searches for Clementine, he records his thoughts in a journal. The journal is filled with letters detailing his pursuit and eight short stories he has written for Clementine's eyes only. The stories are filled with darkness but each proves just how far monsters are willing to go for the one they love.
Dearest Clementine has everything I want in a book. The writing style is hypnotic, leaving the reader mesmerized as scenes of gloom come to life. Candace Robinson expertly crafts a unique collection of short stories riddled with death and desire as they touch on paranormal themes, monsters, fantasy, and romance. The letters Dorin writes to Clementine set the pace for the tale, drawing readers in during the quest to be reunited with his true love. The short stories are dated, spanning multiple eras in time, each accurately described for an eerie effect. The connections between the stories Dorin writes work together to entice the reader into rooting for him as he desperately yearns for Clementine. I highly recommend Dearest Clementine to anyone seeking a dark adventure with a touch of romance.
