Deeply In The Soul is a work of fiction in the crime and urban fiction subgenres, penned by author Hristina Bloomfield. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience owing to adult themes such as sex trafficking. In this harrowing drama filled with tension and emotional highs and lows, we follow the life of the unfortunate protagonist Xena. When her boyfriend’s debts land her in the clutches of a vicious moneylender who wants to sell her body to make up the loan, Xena runs away. The past seems to keep catching up wherever she goes until the enigmatic Agent Dobrevski offers her a difficult but ultimately helpful way out.
Author Hristina Bloomfield has crafted a work of crime fiction that is uniquely pitched to showcase the emotional pressure of running from fate. Xena’s experiences throughout the novel are all very cleverly framed with such close narrative detail that we see the world through her eyes, feeling her anxiety as she turns every street corner, living in fear of who she might find approaching her. This constant sense of suspense carries us through many different places and experiences on Xena’s journey to England, which I found to be very familiar and atmospherically penned. Bloomfield has a gift for saying so much without it being explicit: her implications in dialogue and even the simplest body language perfectly encapsulate the hidden language of trauma and how we must begin to understand that within ourselves in order to heal. Overall, Deeply In The Soul is a crime tale that takes a totally original angle and will certainly appeal to fans of deep emotive drama and psychological fiction.
