Demon Powers and Angel Touched by Kenneth Laws is a new adult fantasy novel centering on a trio of unlikely friends. Hannah Abbot encounters the Kristensen twins, Vonen and Traven, at a party. The three forge a tight friendship. Vonen and Traven are heirs to the GodStone ring fortune, a company established by their father, Sebastian. When the company is threatened, and a man demands Sebastian give up control to him in exchange for the lives of his sons, Hannah, Traven, and Vonen must band together to figure out who is really behind the terrible threats.
The concept of this novel was very interesting. I liked the idea of having rings with power, and the ability to do other, almost magical, actions. When I first began reading, I was a bit confused as to where the story was going. I would have liked more explanation about the world I was being taken into, but that would have been my only complaint. Unfortunately, it took the narrative down a bit for me. I would like to see the author go back and do more to help the reader visualize the GodStone rings, and what different types there are, or if it is just something for the elite classes. I did like the tie-in with various religions, as well as parts of mythology. It was neat to see symbolism usage in the creation of the rings. I am curious to see how Mr. Laws develops the story over the course of the series. Demon Powers and Angel Touched by Kenneth Laws is a promising beginning to a very creative fantasy storyline.
