Dexter the Book Dragon: Discoveries by Deb Evans recounts the adventures of Maizie and Addie, two 12-year-old best friends who enjoy reading books together in their local library. One day, the librarian confides in them that several books have suspiciously gone missing. She suspects they have been stolen. The girls, however, discover the true identity of the 'thief.' The culprit is a small, lonely, talking dragon named Dexter, who enjoys collecting and reading books. He can create multidimensional portals, which he uses to travel between the dragon world and Earth. He stores each treasured book in Dragon Land, a magical world he eventually invites the girls to explore. Soon enough, they all become close friends who enjoy reading together. Their heartfelt journey is a crucial reminder that all books (and creatures) have value—especially abandoned ones.

Dexter the Book Dragon: Discoveries is a fun, well-developed, and engaging children's fantasy. Dexter's lovable and vulnerable nature effortlessly makes him the star of this compelling story. He is a brave and unique dragon who is driven to preserve abandoned books. This task is a duty that our little hero takes very seriously. Through Maizie, Addie, and Dexter's love for books, Deb Evans demonstrates the power of kindness and true friendship. Dexter longs for acceptance and intimate connections with others, while Maizie and Addie are two empathetic and non-judgmental girls who enthusiastically share his passion for books. Their wholesome interactions are exactly what they all needed the most.
