Samuel Falk Simms, Jr. shunned the family tradition of investments to study East Asian Art. When he boarded his flight, he had no notion of the challenges that lay ahead of him. His seat mate was a monk, who shared what appeared to be innocent knowledge with him. Upon landing, he discovered his life was in danger. Sam’s life changed the day he met the monk. He began a journey that brought suffering and pain. The Tibetan people’s very existence and the life of a baby rested on his shoulders.

The Dharma King left me pondering why we did not boycotting the China Olympics. While this was a work of fiction, there was also a lot of truth woven in. B. G. Stroh style is bold and thrilling. He takes the reader along a path fraught with danger and leaves the reader questioning the world’s tolerance to totalitarianism. Fans of fiction, world events, and suspense will enjoy this book.

The Dharma King blends a sad reality of modern-day history with the story of a character who almost comes to life on the pages. The author weaves intrigue and drama into the story with enough twists to keep the reader wired from page to page. Packing the novel with interesting, come-to-life characters, the book sets a quick pace through a remote, beautiful part of the world about which few know. Like Dan Brown's books, "The Dharma King" is imaginative, compelling, and makes you want to keep reading.

The story of the Panchem Lama is an underreported tragedy--and The Dharma King's fast-paced plot enlightens the reader regarding the plight of the Panchen Lama in an accessible and thrill-a-minute way. Once you start reading, it's difficult to put the book down. Likable and earnest characters, beautiful backdrop of Tibet. The author has a particular affinity for describing the macabre and idiosyncratic characters. And the story opens a window of interest into the complex relations between China and Tibet, while giving you a feel good story and read.

Adventure, tibet, the mountains....this thriller has it all. I really enjoyed the read and learned a lot about this fascinating part of the world. I think Stroh is a young writer to watch. I can't wait for his next book!!!

The measure of courage is doing what's right, even when it's inconvenient. In the case of Stroh's protagonist, doing the right thing is likely to get him killed. The Dharma King comes onto the literary scene at just the right time to capture the intense drama being played out in Tibet, as a nation struggles to survive against almost insurmountable odds.

It's a page turner, complete with all the elements you want in a thriller: complex hero, sacred cause, romantic interest, and of course the entire Chinese Army intent on throwing half a dozen monkey wrenches into the works. Highly recommended.

Searching for a new read and being a fan of the Quest plot, I stumbled upon The Dharma King. In this adventurous quick read, the protagonist Sam has his own sort of Great Renunciation, passing up a life of wealth and privilege, embarking on a quest that allegorically mirrors Siddhartha Buddha. It is clear that the author has himself journeyed to many of the locations, and is a passionate admirer of Tibetan Buddhism. It is rare to find an author who writes a story with such personal relevance. It is far more rare to find an author who can write a book with modern historical relevance. After reading the book, I checked out the authors website http://www.dharmaking.com/. There is a column that keeps up to date information about the developments in Tibet.

A compelling page turner that I simply didn't want to put down once I started reading. I found the characters in the book real and wanted to know more when I was finished. A simply wonderful story!

Part fast-moving adventure, history lesson and exploration of the meaning in our lives, the Dharma King pulled me through in a weekend. The author paints beautiful scenes behind the movements of his characters and clearly has a great grasp of the people, places, smells and spirituality of Tibet. The story provides a great context to chronicle the brutal struggle of the Tibetans against Chinese occupation and gives us an alternative definition of "freedom." This is a great read and will keep you gripped right to the end.

A fun read that kept me turning pages well past when I should have been asleep. The protagonist Sam reminds me of a modern-day Amory Blaine yet finds himself in an adventure F. Scott Fitzgerald could only dream of. Though it's clearly fiction, so many of the subplots are hitting the front pages of world newspapers daily - China's imperialism in Tibet, the controversy over the current Panchen Lama - that I couldn't help but wonder what is really happening in Tibet. Worth a read.

THE DHARMA KING by B.G.Stroh is a completely engaging and well-written page turner. It is pertinent to the current political condition in Tibet, China and the perilous situation facing the Dalai Lama, the Panchen Lama and their successors. THE DHARMA KING is filled with interesting facts and nuances of the Tibetan area while weaving an incredibly adventurous story of intrigue, romance and personal growth. I could not put it down, and now my friends and I cannot wait for the sequel.

This is a super enjoyable page turner that takes you on journey to mountains of Tibet and you get to learn about the country and the culture while being entertained. Plus, it's short, sweet and a nice escape from the daily grind.

This is an author to keep an eye on. Looking forward to his next book.

The Dharma King is a journey of transformation and discovery for a young man. The story details his character and integrity growth. The journey forces the young man to dig deep within himself, to trust his intuition, make the most of some less than ideal circumstances, and most of all the believe in himself. Numerous people and encounters, including true life politics, build his character. His success in helping others ultimately leads to his success in helping himself. The story is enjoyable through its engaging content and multiple levels of symbolism.
