Dispense-sation: A Pharmacist’s Rx For A Laugh by Christopher Holl is a collection of jokes that have been slightly ‘tweaked’ to relate to the lot that is the ‘Pharmacist’. Some are well known, others not so much. Some have illustrations and other are narrated. But the jokes are also interspersed with anecdotes (like the donut joke – I’ll eat the donut, you can have the hole) aimed to laugh not specifically at – but with – pharmacists. What’s it like to be a pharmacist, or as the book says, you know you’re a pharmacist when… Of course, it’s all done in good humour and all the jokes are family friendly so there is nothing to cause offence. The addition of ‘scientific’ jokes works really well and exploring the different aspects that encompass a pharmacist’s work are skilfully woven into the book.

This book had me laughing, not just here and there, but on nearly every page. The anecdotes are funny and witty and nicely broken up with cartoons and then a few facts that all bind together nicely to make a great book that will go well with a nice cuppa and cookie. The author, Christopher Holl, has done a clever job in compiling these jokes and anecdotes and I have a feeling his character has come out in this book. This is a great book for pharmacists everywhere, but also for anyone that knows one, or even if you occasionally go into a pharmacy. I guarantee you will never look at the pharmacist in the same way again.

Dispense-sation: A Pharmacist's Rx for a Laugh! is a tribute to all the retail pharmacists in the pharmaceutical industry today. There are a lot of them out there feeling unappreciated, harassed, stressed, and overworked. This book makes light of the humorous side of being a pharmacist and what they have to deal with every day from the big insurance companies, rude customers, to rules and regulations. There are 'knock knock' types of jokes to keep readers guffawing and smiling.

Author Christopher Holl presents a light hearted and humorous remedy for all retail pharmacists. He brings out the lighter side to the industry by poking fun at everything and everyone involved. It's packed with insider jokes and cartoons that will bring a chuckle to any pharmacist to show that they are appreciated and somewhat understood. Even though Holl isn't a retail pharmacist, he has dealt with them closely over the years so he understands their everyday struggles and stresses. This is a great gift for readers to bestow on any family or friends in this very stressful, but much needed occupation. I'm sure many overworked, stressed out pharmacists will feel more appreciated upon reading this book dedicated to their field and occupation. My cousin, who is a pharmacist, especially loved the joke about not being able to use the restroom and taking a short break because the work never stops, the line keeps getting longer, and the customers keep getting more irritable. Holl captures the ins and outs of the pitfalls of being a pharmacist!

Dispense-sation: A Pharmacist's Rx for a Laugh! is a humor book written by Christopher Holl. Holl is not a pharmacist, as he points out in the foreword to his book. He is, however, involved in the pharmaceutical industry and is very familiar with the challenges and frustrations that pharmacists face. Theirs is a profession that requires advanced work in science and mathematics on the university level, yet the average retail pharmacist has problems getting adequate compensation, having enough time to eat a meal, or even finding the time for bathroom breaks while on the job. They're also subjected to endless questions both on the job and off, if their profession is known, and are often given more information by their customers than they're quite comfortable with. This book is designed to get a bit of humor out of these challenges and difficulties.

Christopher Holl's humor book, Dispense-sation: A Pharmacist's Rx for a Laugh!, is filled with entertaining cartoons and amusing anecdotes that the author feels are most pertinent to pharmacists, but I think anyone who's ever walked into a drugstore and asked their pharmacist for advice will smile and appreciate the humor and awkward situations covered in this book. Being a bit of a science geek, I especially enjoyed the science and technology jokes and puns. There's also a marvelous chapter on famous pharmacists in history. While reading, I felt a deeper understanding for community pharmacists whose work conditions and compensation seem small recompense for their academic training and important function. They're frequently the ones who help decipher the doctor's instructions and can tell if a customer's newest prescription will have an adverse effect in combination with their current regimen. So, while I chuckled and laughed at the jokes and cartoons, Dispense-sation: A Pharmacist's Rx for a Laugh! was an eyeopening look at an often overlooked occupation. Whether you're a pharmacist, have one in your family or have ever set foot in a pharmacy, Dispense-sation is recommended reading.
