Author Biography

My name is Kalenga Augustine Mulenga aka K.A. Mulenga. My passion is writing. I started writing when I was 10 years old and my passion was reignited by my 11 year old son. Writing runs in my blood as my late father was a journalist and the first black editor of the Zambia Daily Mail and my late brother was a poet. To date, I have published 9 children's eBooks on Amazon. I love writing children’s books with a positive message and also to make them laugh and entertained. I am a prolific writer and currently have 9 edited and completed manuscripts.
I am busy with a memoir and after that I would like to write some fiction and non-fiction in the near future.
One of my books, Donk and the Stubborn Donkeys was #1 Bestseller Juvenile Fiction > Animals > Farm Animals

Donk the donkey wants some answers. He doesn’t understand why the farmer of Donkey Farm calls all the donkeys stubborn: “Move, you stubborn donkeys! Why, oh why are you so stubborn?” Donk asks everyone and they all give him the same answer, “It’s just the way it is.” When he meets the wisest donkey of all, Jack the fairy donkey, he asks him the same question and he’s disappointed when he hears the same answer. Why won’t anyone tell Donk the real reason why donkeys are stubborn? Donk needs to know. Jack finally tells Donk and sends him back to share it with the others.

K.A. Mulenga’s picture book story, Donk and the Stubborn Donkeys, is a clever way of teaching young people about labels and the stigmas attached to these labels. With bright, colorful illustrations, the plot follows young Donk’s quest to find some answers, to understand why the farmer called all the donkeys stubborn. The inquisitive young donkey will certainly attract young readers who are all full of their own ‘why’ questions and their own quests to find out who they are and why they are the way they are. It also addresses the impact negative labels can have on an individual and it points out that one doesn’t have to (and shouldn’t) accept these labels, because that is all they are: labels. The names we’re called really don’t define who we are. A powerful message brilliantly told in a fun way that will instantly appeal to young readers.

An inspirational children’s book.

My two granddaughters just loved this bright and inspirational children’s book. It tells the story of Donk, a little donkey who’s a bit of a loner. He’s the youngest in the family, and nobody has time for him. All he hears the farmer saying is that donkeys are stubborn. Why does he say that? Are donkeys really stubborn? And, if they are, why?

Well Donk, like all young animals is curious, and tries to discover the answer. He asks everyone, his mother, his brothers and sisters, even the magical purple fairy donkey Jack. “Why are donkeys stubborn?” Everyone just says, “That’s just the way it is,” but that’s not good enough for Donk, he wants to know the reason why.

Children need to ask questions to grow as people, and develop their understanding of their world, and it’s the same for all creatures. In this bright, and beautifully illustrated children’s book, the author, using the cute and endearing character of Donk, has cleverly demonstrated to children that it is good to question things, and search for answers. Just because they are told “That’s just how it is,” that’s not a reason to accept it, or indeed believe it is true! This book empowers them to believe that they can stretch boundaries, and open new horizons, not only for themselves, but for others too.

Writing truly runs in the blood of Kalenga Augustine Mulenga, the author of this Amazon #1 Bestselling children’s book, and others. His father was the first black editor of the Zambia Daily Mail, and his brother was a poet. He started writing aged 10, but his passion has been reignited by his 11 year old son.

A wonderful inspirational children’s book which will be enjoyed by children either by it being read to them, or reading it themselves when they are able. Highly recommended!

K. A Mulenga's series of delightful, easy to follow childeren's stories are full of charming characters. I started with this one and worked my way through all 9 (refer to short reviews for each seperately).

This one introduces us to a cute little donkey and his family of stubborn donkeys. Donk, the Donkey is curious about why all donkeys think that donkeys are stubborn. Where did this perception come from? He meets the fairy donkey (love the fairy donkey idea, not sure about the white beard) who provides him with answers.

These wonderful stories are well-illustrated and make for great bedtime stories for young children. Each story includes a teachable and valuable lesson.

Donk and the Stubborn Donkeys is a charming, delightful and simple to read children's book for kids 2 to 8 years old. The illustrations are a great addition to the book and only adds to the story. Young readers will find themselves invested and really relate to the main character and his journey to find an answer he does not yet have. I read the book with my nephew; well actually, he read it to me. We read it together twice and thoroughly enjoyed it.

A fun, colourful read which all kids will like.
While Donk travels through donkey farm, he wanted to know why donkeys are stubborn. He met up with several farm animals, but no one can give him the answer. When the donkey-fairy appears, Donk was at its wit's end.
The truth he hears will change his life for the better.
The page layout of the illustrated book's makes this a quick read. The colourful pictures and text to the point and direct.
A great tool for parents and kids alike.

I read this book on prolific works. I LOVE the moral of this story: speak life! However, I found the text hard to read on the green background and the illustrations were not my cup of tea.

Fun read that younger kids will love...

More often than not children relate themselves with the characters of a good story. In such circumstances, reading fiction can help them to get inspiration from the characters. These stories often portray real life implications through anecdotes, and as such makes it easier for them to understand the complex aspects of life. Moreover, reading these stories at regular intervals can actually help them to develop a positive outlook towards life, which eventually proves beneficial for good character development.
