It has been a while since I have read an ice skating story, and Dreams of Gold by Traci Hunter Abramson is an amazing story of Amaliya and Tyler as they strive for the big gold medal. The pair had been working so hard for their competitions, and then one day Amaliya was injured. She was so shaken that she, Tyler, and their coach Gordon weren't sure she would ever skate again. But Amaliya was determined, and with the help of Gordon, Tyler, her family, and especially her mom, who was a dancer before her accident, Amaliya was finally back on the ice and training. Finding out the Olympics would be in Russia made her train even harder because Russia is her mom's home country. And there are secrets she wants to find answers to about her mom's family while in Russia - if they make it that far. But with her injury, will Amaliya and Tyler be good enough by the time the Olympics comes up? Will Amaliya finally find answers to her mom's side of the family?
Dreams of Gold by Traci Hunter Abramson was such an awesome read. I love figure skating and especially pairs, so I was engrossed in this story and didn't put it down unless I had to. Abramson creates characters that are easy to love and so realistic that I felt as though they were friends. Tyler and Amaliya quickly stole my heart. The author did a great job of researching this project and it easily shows in the details of skating, competitions, metals, and everything else involved in working toward an Olympic gold medal. I enjoyed getting to know more about professional ice skating and the journey skaters take in order to win. It looks so easy, but Traci Hunter Abramson shows the side of what the skaters go through that we usually don't see. If you enjoy this sport, I highly recommend that you check this book out. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
