Drink the Wild Air by Christopher Renna vividly describes a transformative summer through the eyes of seventeen-year-old Finley Weston. Set against the backdrop of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, a place rich in tradition and family expectations, the novel explores themes of self-discovery, love, and the courage to defy societal norms. For Finley, summers at the family vacation home have always been predictable—until he meets the charismatic, free-spirited, and handsome Dawson Lauder, who disrupts Finley's carefully structured world with his spontaneity and zest for life. Their initial meeting sparks a connection that evolves into a deep and unexpected romance, challenging Finley to confront his own insecurities and question the boundaries set by his privileged upbringing.

Told in the first person POV, Christopher Renna's prose effortlessly captures the essence of summer and the confusion and conflict of a 17-year-old soon to turn 18. Renna’s skillful weaving of moments of introspection with the heady rush of love creates a narrative that resonates with authenticity and will captivate readers with its raw emotion. Drink the Wild Air is a coming-of-age story celebrating love, transformative power, and personal revelation. Through Finley's journey, readers are invited to contemplate the complexities of identity and the courage it takes to embrace one’s true self, even when faced with family expectations and societal pressures. The characters are richly drawn, each contributing to the tapestry of Finley's summer. Finley is portrayed with sensitivity, navigating the nuances of his emotions and desires as he navigates the unfamiliar terrain of his heart. Although Dawson is different from Finley, their relationship is a testament to the power of love.
