What comes to mind when you think of lobsters? Do you think lobsters are delicious? Then pick up the children’s book, Earth to Larry by Sandra Lee Caouette. It is the story of Larry the lobster. Larry lives in the Atlantic Ocean. He is a young lobster who likes to explore the ocean and enjoy himself. One day his father, Big Dude, tells him a story of how lobsters used to live hundreds of years ago. Larry is surprised to hear that lobster life was different then from what it is now. He learns about lobster traps for the first time. Big Dude tells Larry to live his life to its full potential. Inspired by Big Dude’s story, Larry decides to embark on a journey of adventure.

Sandra Lee Caouette's Earth to Larry sheds light on the life of a lobster from a lobster’s point of view. The story is written in a simple format. It could be the story of any youngster. Larry is an enthusiastic young lobster who is fascinated by life. I found the story of Larry highly endearing. Larry’s conversation with Big Dude and his introduction to lobster traps was moving. Larry’s dreams of an adventurous life had a positive impact on me. There is a lot to learn from Larry’s story, both for children and grown-ups. This beautifully illustrated book is ideal for bedtime storytelling. Earth to Larry made me reflect on human nature and human treatment of other living species. I am curious to join Larry on his adventure in part 2.
