Elder Blood: A Story of Ancient Prophecies and Political Conspiracies is the first book in The Epimetheus Trial series which was penned by author E. A. Setser. It is a work of fiction in the epic fantasy genre and is aimed at all ages, but contains occasional graphic violence and some use of explicit language. This book is the beginning of a saga that follows multiple factions in a battle to determine the fate of their homeland. Currently in the grasp of the mysterious and dangerous Avatars of Fate, the people of Ouristihra struggle to maintain independence from the Avatars' influence, all whilst the Avatars begin a hunt for a group of seemingly unrelated children.

Fans of a true fantasy epic will love the lore, family ties, and worldbuilding that come prepacked, and will be ready to dive into in this immersive fantasy work. Author E. A. Sester knows this world well, filling it with atmospheric dialogue, interesting quirks, and a powerful political structure that sets the scene for battle. I also found there to be a nice balance between the character-driven elements of the story and the bigger picture of the plot, which meant there was a small group of characters to get to know more deeply, and root for and feel invested in when the action takes on a grander scale. Overall, Elder Blood: A Story of Ancient Prophecies and Political Conspiracies delivers on the high level of sophistication and action/adventure which it promises and is recommended for all epic fantasy fans seeking a new quest.
