Elisha, Man of God by Charles R. Reed tells the story of one of God’s most beloved prophets, Elisha. Documenting his life and special relationship with God, Charles paints a vivid picture of the man God entrusted with delivering His most important messages. Having been Elijah’s successor, Elisha knew that a great deal was expected of him, and the pressure he felt could not have been light. Yet he proved himself to be more than capable, saving twice as many souls as his mentor. But as a prophet of God, Elisha was not always accepted and faced ridicule and danger often. The road was not easy, and in those days, evildoers saw prophets as a hindrance, and oftentimes had them murdered, as was the case with Jezebel and King Ahab. But Elisha possessed the necessary courage and desire to do God’s will, and his faith never wavered. Elisha proved that he was indeed a man of God.

Charles R. Reed writes in an intriguing and captivating style in this honest rendition of Elisha’s life. I appreciated the authenticity with which Charles told his story. The humorous tone made it reader-friendly despite the dark subject matter. Elisha’s story is astounding and nothing short of inspirational. Sin is just as bad now as it was then, but his faith kept him going as ours should keep us going; we, too, are capable of bravely carrying God’s message just as Elisha did. He exhibited the characteristics of a true leader and a man of faith. I have grappled many times with his decision in cursing those youths, but have now come to understand that he was a man doing dangerous work and, as a servant of God, could not afford nor condone disrespect. Elisha, Man of God celebrates one of the most admired and powerful characters to have ever lived, and it is a story for both young and old. I enjoyed the book immensely and look forward to my next read from Charles R. Reed.
