Embracing Perfections and Imperfections by Abhi Sharma tells the story of a little girl, Aara, who loves to dance but stutters when she speaks. This was not a problem at her old school, but when she started attending a new one, she had to deal with classmates who made fun of her. Aara befriends another little girl, Maya, and one day, she meets Maya's father, a renowned space scientist who stutters, too! He will be the one to give Aara the best advice a child who stutters can receive. Are you curious to find out what he will tell her?

Embracing Perfections and Imperfections is engaging. The story gives you joy and relief, and the images by Tahzeeb Aslam (my favorite is the one with the waterfall) make you soar. Abhi Sharma explains to young readers a very delicate issue (accepting one's imperfections rather than considering them defects) and does it gracefully. Aara likes to dance, but the jokes about her stutter nearly caused her to forget her passion; this should make us think about how the outside world affects us. When you consider this, Maya's father's advice is even more precious because it contains a fundamental life lesson that every reader of this book should make their own. This is why I highly recommend this story to children, especially to those who have (or believe they have) imperfections and do not know how to deal with them. I am sure they will find inspiration to look forward and pursue their passions.
