Alex Abrams, a former Air Force veteran turned homicide detective, is drawn into a web of cartel activity, betrayal, and murder in her hometown of Summer Haven. Sharpe’s ability to craft a complex, layered plot is evident as Alex navigates the dangers of uncovering the truth while protecting her loved ones. C.D. Sharpe delivers a story that is action-packed and emotional, proving once again why Alex Abrams is a character worth following.
As with C.D. Sharpe’s first installment, Alex is a compelling protagonist. She’s strong, resourceful, and deeply human. Her relationships with her brother Lucca, her childhood friend Shawn, and Mrs. Miller add emotional weight to the story, grounding the action in genuine connections. Sharpe uses dialogue and internal monologue effectively to reveal the emotional struggles and motivations of the characters, allowing readers to connect with them on a deeper level. The relationships between Alex and her family, friends, and colleagues are central to the story, adding emotional weight to the high-stakes action. Another hallmark of the author’s writing is her ability to weave suspense and action seamlessly into the narrative. She uses short, punchy sentences during moments of tension to heighten the urgency. The pacing is carefully timed to maintain momentum and surprise readers. Sharpe also employs cliffhangers and flashbacks to build intrigue and provide context, ensuring that the plot remains dynamic. Cooper’s Creek is a must-read for fans of fast-paced thrillers with heart.
