In Ephraim’s Ark by Michael Amundsen, the town of Divine Massacre was founded by Hank Lafleur. The town continues to grow, especially with the discovery of gypsum, which triggered a variety of mining activities. The growth stops when the mining reduces, but people like Mrs. Warnock still believe in the potential of the town. By the time the Olsens move into the town, it's on the decline, and getting a job is hard. Meanwhile, the government has plans to test an atomic bomb near the town. This brings mixed reactions from the town’s residents. Despite being a child, Ephraim Olsen is particularly disturbed by the lessons on how to survive an atomic bomb attack and the subsequent plans by the government to test the same weapon in their town. How will things turn out when Ephraim starts acting on his thoughts?

Ephraim’s Ark by Michael Amundsen is a must-read! This wonderfully written work covers various themes such as religion, dreams, and working hard that will resonate very well with many readers. This thought-provoking work also makes one think about our responsibility to question the government when we believe that whatever is being done will affect our communities and ecosystems. The characters were well-developed, and the reader will also appreciate the vivid descriptions of all emotions and events, which capture the imagination. Michael also ensured the plot flowed seamlessly, which left no room for confusion. The narration was excellent, which added to the overall beauty of the work. This was a good read, and I look forward to reading more by Michael Amundsen.
