Everywhere She Ran is a fast‑paced mystery novel by A. Eveline and a gripping read. Communications lawyer Leyla James is no stranger to intrigue. But in the middle of the COVID pandemic, she’s determined to keep her job while many others join the unemployment line. An innocent jog while staying with her boyfriend leads to a brutal attack and her assailant's death, but the witnesses have mysteriously disappeared. With her State Department boyfriend overseas and unreachable, Leyla is plunged into a cross‑country chase to escape violent hired thugs linked to his unsanctioned mission. Leyla runs for her life during a time of painful social upheaval, managing to stay one step ahead of her captors. Forced to rely on the kindness of strangers, Leyla’s luck eventually runs out—only for her to discover that her real enemies aren’t just the obvious ones chasing her with guns.

Leyla James’s frantic journey across the United States is captured in a relay of short, punchy sentences that heighten the tension with every turn of the page. She’s characterized as capable and professional, yet with a frightening naïveté that leads her into danger. With a tendency to be too trusting, she left my nerves in tatters. The novel’s theme centers on untrustworthiness, as each character lets Leyla down in her moments of need. Her boyfriend is a no‑show, her allies are self‑indulgent and unreliable, and even her enemies twist and turn under pressure. My favorite thing is the constant sense of tension A. Eveline creates through her wonderful storytelling. The ending is a shocker, and although Leyla detects discrepancies in characters' behavior early on, A. Eveline works hard to dispel suspicion. I honestly didn’t see it coming. Everywhere She Ran is a great read.
